Overseas Citizen of India - OCI

Eligibility

  1. Foreign national who was an Indian citizen at the time of January 26th, 1950, or at any time after this date.
  2. Foreign national who was eligible to become an Indian citizen on January 26th, 1950.
  3. Foreign national who belonged to a territory that became part of India after August 15th, 1947.
  4. Foreign national who is a child, grandchild or great grandchild of such a citizen.
  5. Foreign national who is a child of such persons mentioned above.
  6. Foreign national who is a minor child of at least one Indian citizen.
  7. Foreign national who is a spouse of an Indian citizen or of an OCI cardholder whose marriage has been registered and subsisted for a continuous period of not less than two years.

* No person whose at least one of the parents, grandparents or great grandparents is or ever was a citizen of Pakistan, Bangladesh or any other country specified by the Government of India shall be eligible for registration as an Overseas Citizen of India.

Residents in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul must submit their application to the Consulate General of India in São Paulo. The consular section of the Embassy of India in Brasilia has jurisdiction over other Brazilian states.

OCI document issuance fee – R$ 1098,00

OCI document issuance fee in case in case of changes of personal information – R$ 100,00

OCI document issuance fee in case of loss or damage – R$ 400,00

ICWF fee – Indian Community Welfare Fund (payment must be done separetely)  – R$ 10,00

SEDEX fee, if you wish to send and receive your documents by post  – R$ 60,00

Payment

In person

Applicants who come in person to the consular section of the Embassy of India can pay the fees with cash. The amount brought to the Embassy must be exact.

By post

Applicants who submit their documentation by mail must pay the fees with two administrative checks (one exclusively for ICWF fee and another for all other fees). Personal or business checks are not accepted. The bank issues administrative checks once the CNPJ of the Embassy of India (04386483 / 0001-65) is provided.
